9.30pm-1am | EVERY WEDNESDAY NIGHT

Any style music, original or cover songs welcome. No matter what instrument you play, come on down and jam. A house band is there for back up. If you’re in a band, are part of a band, or a soloist, come on down for a great night!

You can play any of our instruments as a participant. We provide the entire music equipment setup (we encourage people to bring their own drum sticks, guitars & bass, but it is not required). Anyone can sign up and then play away, no purchase required!

Our Open Mic is run a little differently than most other Open Mics. Joe plays acoustic guitar. Joe chooses to have the entire house band backing him on his entire set so he lets us know and we make it happen.) Mike Costa
Sep 24 @ 9:30 pm – 11:30 pm

Born in Providence, RI and raised in Killingly, CT, Mike was exposed to many different genres of music at a young age. His father listened to Rock and Country, his mother Disco, Funk, and Pop, his uncle Hard Rock and Metal, and his maternal grandfather Big Band, Swing, and Easy Listening. Much of his family played music as well. His paternal grandfather and father Trombone, his mother vocals, and his uncle guitar. He started to develop a love for all different genres and styles of music, different instruments, as well as music culture and history. After learning to play guitar at age 12, he added on vocals, piano, and harmonica, which were all self taught. In 2013, he started playing open mics to gain exposure, then working on original material in 2015. In 2018, he started getting headlining gigs at bars and restaurants. His first EP “Blood, Sweat and Tears” is currently in production. It touches on situations of everyday life, all ranging from party anthems, to songs about relationships and heartache. As of January 2019, he has been hired with the band The Papa Joe Show in addition to his own work. With an upcoming career on the rise, there’s no telling what will happen!

Chris Ruest
Sep 27 @ 9:30 pm – 11:30 pm

Chris Ruest belongs to the impressive class of serious Texas blues guitarists in their thirties, a group that includes Johnny Moeller, Shawn Pittman, and Nick Curran. While the others may have wider name recognition, Ruest has quietly built a reputation of excellence that is spreading beyond his Dallas home base. A veteran with nearly two decades’ experience on the bandstand, Ruest’s passion for classic blues (jump, Chicago, and Gulf Coast) and roots rock forms comes through in an original voice that combines immediacy and authenticity. Dead-on songwriting and savvy selection of covers provide a platform for his unaffected, honest vocals and tough guitar.

The Connecticut native’s interest in guitar was encouraged by his father and his uncle, jazz musician Louis Mastrobattisto. Ruest began taking lessons at 15, hoping, rather typically, to emulate blues-based rock guitarists Duane Allman, Eric Clapton, and Jimmy Page, but soon discovered the artists who inspired them. Gradually his core group of touchstone artists expanded to include the likes of Hubert Sumlin, Pee Wee Crayton, Robert Nighthawk, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, Pat Hare, Eddie Taylor, Freddie King, Magic Sam, Robert Lockwood, Luther Tucker, T-Bone Walker, Albert Collins, Tiny Grimes, and many others. After playing around Connecticut between the ages of 17 and 25, Ruest resolved to make music his main priority, gave up his factory job, and relocated to Texas in 1999.

After a brief stay in Austin, where he held down a night at the storied Joe’s Generic Bar, Ruest moved to Dallas at the suggestion of Brian “Hash Brown” Calway, another transplanted Northeasterner who is at the heart of the Dallas-Ft. Worth blues scene. Ruest credits his occasional gigs with Hash Brown as important steps in his development – “He taught Johnny and Jay Moeller and Paul Size and Shawn Pittman – all those guys came through him, and Nick Curran played with him for a while, and Elliot Sowell – some of the best guys came through his band” – and gained valuable experience backing singers Robin Banks and Wanda King (Freddie King’s daughter). His most indelible lessons in blues and life came from the legendary Sam Myers: “When I got to Dallas, I spent a lot of time, like three years, with him. Before he died, I started spending more time with him. I actually did a couple gigs under my name with Sam, which was awesome.” More recently, Ruest has enjoyed the mentorship of Mr. “Linda Lu” himself, the great (and elusive) performer Ray Sharpe.

Ruest’s band has opened for Bobby “Blue” Bland, Johnny Winter, Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets, and Little Charlie and the Nightcats. 2005 brought Ruest’s recording debut as a solo artist, Too Many Problems, a spirited collection that captured crisp performances in glorious, true-to-vintage sound. The notable players who appeared on that disc, including Preston Hubbard, Matt Farrell, and “Kaz” Kazanoff in addition to Curran and Hash Brown, offer testimony to the respect Ruest commands among his colleagues. Now expanding his performance schedule to a wider circuit that includesHouston, Corpus Christi, andSan Antonio, and club and festival dates outside Texas, Ruest is preparing to record a follow-up CD and to let the world share in this Dallas-Ft. Worth secret. “My goal is to play everywhere and keep playin’.”

Amanda McCarthy
Oct 1 @ 9:30 pm – 11:30 pm

Amanda McCarthy is an award winning, multi-genre singer/songwriter from the greater Boston area. She is also available for hire to play cover based gigs. She recently released her long awaited debut EP, The Good, The Bad & The Awkward, and you can be on the lookout for her new EP to be released in Fall 2015.

You’ll usually find Amanda playing a solo acoustic set, or as an acoustic duo with brother/lead guitarist Mark McCarthy, but once in a while you may catch Amanda playing with a full band, or playing another instrument. (Piano, ukulele, or select percussion)

Although she will always sing the songs her fans have known since she was a teenager, Amanda’s also been shining light of a lot of newer original music moving in a new direction. Her sound and style centers around the pop genre, but each individual song combines elements from other genres including rock, alternative, country, indie and blues.

“With clever yet introspective songwriting delivered through a powerful voice and equally powerful guitar, Amanda has proven that she has the talent and wisdom to get onstage with the heavyweights and stay there.”

Joe plays acoustic guitar. Joe chooses to have the entire house band backing him on his entire set so he lets us know and we make it happen.) When we have that information it makes it easier to call everyone from the audience to get them up on the stage as quickly as possible so we keep the excitement in the air.

As a musician, this night of music is worth checking out and taking part in. Any and all musicians are welcome!

Open Mic ~ Wednesday Friends Day
Apr 15 @ 9:30 pm – Apr 16 @ 1:00 am

9.30pm-1am | EVERY WEDNESDAY NIGHT

Any style music, original or cover songs welcome. No matter what instrument you play, come on down and jam. A house band is there for back up. If you’re in a band, are part of a band, or a soloist, come on down for a great night!

You can play any of our instruments as a participant. We provide the entire music equipment setup (we encourage people to bring their own drum sticks, guitars & bass, but it is not required). Anyone can sign up and then play away, no purchase required!

Our Open Mic is run a little differently than most other Open Mics. Each participant is able to sign up for his/her desired slot and then choose which of the house band musicians that they want backing their set. (ex: Joe signs up for 11pm-11.20pm.
