Joe Moss and Lauren Mitchell
Feb 17 @ 9:00 pm – Feb 18 @ 12:00 am

Few blues performers walk the walk to the degree of Chicago based guitarist/bandleader Joe Moss. One of the hardest working performers on the scene today. Not just an imitator of the music’s glorious past, he strives to find his own sound and material within the styles he chooses to play. And the music world is taking notice. This year, Moss will have the honor of being inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. The band is tight, featuring some of Chicago’s finest blues musicians. A talented singer, writer, and guitarist, Joe is a consistent and entertaining performer with a monster groove.

A guitarist since the age of 10, Moss was given his passport into the blues world by Buddy Scott, who noticed Moss at a jam session at Rosa’s Blues Lounge in Chicago. Soon, Moss was playing seven nights a week as a member of Buddy’s Rib Tip band. Moss’ guitar skills quickly became notorious on the local scene and made him an in-demand sideman. In 1996 Joe started his own band and has recorded and toured constantly to date. Some of the people he had the pleasure of playing with include: Buddy Guy, Little Milton,Willy “Big Eyes” Smith, Lurrie Bell, Zora Young, Charles Wilson, Lil’ Smokey Smothers, Syl Johnson, Big Time Sarah, Barkin’ Bill Smith, Lefty Dizz, Magic Slim, A.C. Reed, Billy Branch,Walter Scott, Hollywood Scott, Mike Wheeler, James Wheeler and Little Mack Simmons. Joe has backed these artists all over the world.

Alex2e
Feb 20 @ 9:30 pm – 11:30 pm

My name is Alex Tuohey (or Alex2e) and I’m here to explain what I’m about. To be honest, I was never a music kid growing up. I played sports my whole life and never took to music like some others did. At my high school it was seen as “uncool” and although I never thought that, I wanted to be on the jock side of the house.

Later on in life at the age of 23, a major surgery laid me up on the couch for 2 months and I hit a pretty low place in my personal life. I’m not much of a TV guy and always had a “bucket list” type thought that I’d like to learn to play guitar. So that’s what I did. Through watching countless YouTube videos and online lessons I begin to teach myself guitar and drive my parents and later roommates insane in the process. The hours turned into months that turned into years. At 24 I begin to try and sing. I worked my ass off at both and finally played my first live show at 25, accompanying a local recording artist as part of a duo. Now at 28, I play roughly 10-12 shows a month, in cities like Hartford, Boston, Burlington, NYC and Chicago. Eventually I would like to play across the country. Impossible? That’s for you to decide. As cliché as it sounds, I don’t believe anything is impossible. I plan to keep grinding, outworking and taking any opportunity to let my music be heard. Whether it’s in front of 100s of people or it’s just in “My Mother’s Bathroom”, I will ride this dream until I can’t anymore.

My new EP is named “My Mother’s Bathroom” because for awhile it was the only place that would let me play. The Talkboy you see me using (giving “Home Alone” nostalgia) is a logo I use because as a kid I would hold it up to the TV and radio to try and catch my favorite songs on a cassette tape. It’s an honor that you even took the time to read this far to get to know me a little better. Eventually, I’ll have much cooler stuff to put in here but for now I think this is a good starting point. I hope to meet you soon.

Erin Harpe & The Delta Swingers
Feb 24 @ 9:00 pm – 11:30 pm

Charismatic singer and guitarist Erin Harpe, along with her band the Delta Swingers, have become favorites around New England, with a growing fan base around the world. Their unique brand of dance music is rooted in vintage 1930’s Mississippi delta blues, then shaken and stirred with other genres like soul, funk, and reggae, evoking a wild southern juke joint where the whiskey and gin are flowing and everybody’s dancing.

Erin Harpe & the Delta Swingers features Erin on vocals and lead guitar, backed by Jim Countryman on bass, Matt Charles on harmonica and Kendall Divoll on drums. Their critically acclaimed debut album Love Whip Blues (VizzTone) has been very well received, getting 4 stars in DownBeat Magazine, and airplay around the world including SeriusXM’s Bluesville!

Love Whip Blues is a refreshing, rootsy take on the blues, with songs about trains, hard luck and good luck, and of course (in the vein of Harpe’s other band, Lovewhip) shakin‘ your booty. Ten swinging tracks include four originals, Harpe’s take on songs by 1930’s blues artists, and a very unorthodox version of the classic John Prine song, “Angel From Montgomery”, famously recorded by Bonnie Raitt. Produced by Dave Gross (Candye Kane, Chris O’Leary, Albert Castiglia, Gina Sicilia) at Fat Rabbit Studios, the album shows off the band’s signature Charles River Delta Blues – their own country blues/roots/americana cocktail – including an appearance by guest star guitarist Bob Margolin (Muddy Waters band).

George Boone
Mar 2 @ 9:30 pm – Mar 3 @ 12:00 am

george_booneTHE GEORGE BOONE BLUES BAND
George Boone. From his suit and shiny black shoes, to his powerful vocals filled with raw emotion, this veteran musician will immerse you in a deep river of the blues.

George Boone began playing live on stage at the age of 12 in the greater New York area. He won the respect and accolades of the great players in the blues scene. He has graced the stage in the United States, Japan, and Europe, performing at international blues festivals, New York City clubs, concert halls and local dives. George Boone has shared the stage with legendary blues greats such as Albert King, Screaming Jay Hawkins and Johnny Copeland, to name a few.
George Boone, along with Raoul Bowman on five string bass, have toured and played together since they were teenagers, creating the rhythm and blues/jazz sound they are known for. George’s guitar whispers, then screams, with the steady funky bass behind him.

George’s album of original tunes, Stranger in my Hometown, is as down and dirty as it gets. From the autobiographical STRANGER IN MY HOMETOWN to the bad boy CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, this album covers a spectrum of styles, all George Boone. It becomes quite obvious that, as Matt Smith wrote in Metroland magazine “I think George Boone is one of the most amazing guys I’ve seen. He’s the real thing…”

A night with George Boone is an experience. Rocking out, dancing, crying the blues, George Boone is a lesson in what the blues are all about. George Boone lives the blues. George Boone is the blues.

Cheryl Arena
Mar 10 @ 9:30 pm – 11:30 pm

Cheryl sizzles with excitement as she mesmerizes audiences with her sultry voice and powerhouse energy. She is a triple threat- a great songwriter, vocalist and blows harp like there’s no tomorrow…

Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, she began playing harmonica and immersing herself into the Blues in 1987. Boston was an inspiring place to be as she was surrounded by so many talented harmonica and horn players. Her earliest childhood memories relating to music were listening and singing along with her mother’s Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday records. Her true passion though was in learning to play an instrument so at age 8 her grandmother set her up with accordion lessons..not exactly what she had in mind, but it was a start and lead to playing other instruments like guitar and bass guitar, and eventually finding the one instrument that truly resonated with her…the harmonica. She knew this was her calling so she went looking for a job that she could support herself while at the same time focusing on practicing harmonica…that job was driving limos.

For the next 4 years she spent most of her time behind the wheel of a big black stretch practicing her harp while waiting for clients. Almost immediately she was out testing the waters at jam sessions around town and within a year or so she had established her own Blue Monday Night Jam at Wally’s Cafe in the south end of Boston, a stone’s throw from Berklee College of Music, which she ran for 3 years… By then it was time to quit the limo job and go full time as a musician which she has been doing since 1991.

Her next project was holding a steady Tuesday night gig which ran for 6 years at the Marketplace Cafe in the Historical Fanueil Hall…this was different than a jam..it was more like an invitational jam where the house band changed every week and featured different guest artists. This was by far some of the best schooling she could have ever had, playing with some of the most talented local, regional and at times national artists that would come through town who had heard about the “scene” at the Marketplace. But alas the place got sold and that was the end of that…next stop…the road. Since then Cheryl has been touring regionally, nationally and internationally.

She has recorded on several cds with her most recent one, being her 1st solo effort, “Blues Got Me” including 7 original songs, backed by a stellar 7 piece band and produced by Duke Robillard, who also plays on a few cuts.

In 2001 Cheryl started sharing her gift and passion with others teaching harmonica lessons privately and to groups. In 2007 Jason Ricci introduced her to Jon Gindick who was holding one of his harmonica jam camps in Dallas TX. It wasn’t long before she got the call from Jon to teach at his next camp which was being held in Tampa Florida later that same year.

Cheryl now teaches at 4 camps a year, 3 of which are held in the “Heart of the Delta” in Clarksdale, Mississippi at The Shack Up Inn and one to be in Ventura California.

The harmonica has brought her to many exotic places and afforded her a wealth of wonderful experiences! So whether it’s on a big festival stage fronting her own band, playing an acoustic duo in some cozy little wine bar, singing and playing with a 20 piece orchestra in Dallas TX, touring around Italy, being a side person in someone else’s band, giving harmonica lessons on Skype or teaching at Jon Gindick’s Jam camps, Cheryl’s beloved pocket pal is always close to her side ready for the next musical adventure!

The southern New Hampshire guitarist Arthur James applies his craft to meaningful original blues guitar and vocals. His voice is so hefty you’d think he was seven feet tall. His guitar sounds larger than life too, due to the volumes of emotive release he offers throughout his music.

His songs are, vocally, melodically, and rhythmically, beautiful expressions of what has been going on inside him for quite some time. This singer-songwriter has the blues down pat. It’s a form of music that can expressed the highest highs and lowest lows of the human experience.

Ryan Hartt and the Bluehearts
Mar 24 @ 9:30 pm – 11:45 pm

“YOU GOT TO LIVE IT TO GIVE IT”, states the first line from Ryan Hartt & the Blue Hearts’ latest CD, “Call My Name”. In their 12 years together, Ryan Hartt & the Blue Hearts have, indeed, lived it. They’ve logged countless gigs and countless miles in a Honda minivan, playing clubs and festivals throughout the Northeast and beyond. Being in a blues band in today’s music market is never easy. Nonetheless, the band keeps moving forward, outlasting musical trends and clubs that have come and gone.

Though the band will always be rooted in the Chicago and West Coast blues they have built their reputation on, “Call My Name” expands their sound with soul, proto-rock & roll and even ska. Their songwriting has matured equally. Certainly the common blues themes of love lost and found are here, but the songs on “Call My Name” also reflect the changes and growth of the band members over the last seven years with topics ranging from depression to choosing music over a relationship to the grind of a gigging blues band. Yet no matter what, as the last line of the of the last song says, Ryan Hartt & the Blue Hearts “will be back next Friday night”.

Alex2e
Apr 10 @ 9:30 pm – 11:30 pm

Each participant is able to sign up for his/her desired slot and then choose which of the house band musicians that they want backing their set. (ex: Joe signs up for 11pm-11.20pm. Joe plays acoustic guitar. Joe chooses to have the entire house band backing him on his entire set so he lets us know and we make it happen.) When we have that information it makes it easier to call everyone from the audience to get them up on the stage as quickly as possible so we keep the excitement in the air.

As a musician, this night of music is worth checking out and taking part in. Any and all musicians are welcome!
